Fondazione Edmund Mach in San Michele all’Adige is deeply saddened by the passing of Urška Vrhovšek, a highly regarded researcher internationally recognised for her significant contributions to metabolomics, food chemistry and nutrition. She joined San Michele in 2001 as a postdoctoral researcher and led the Metabolomics Unit from 2009 until just a few months ago.

In 2014, she was awarded the title of “Science Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia” in Slovenia, as part of the ceremony for the Zois Awards, the country’s most prestigious scientific awards recognising outstanding research achievements. She was also Associate Professor of Enology at the University of Ljubljana and was included in the prestigious international “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list.

Her colleagues remember her as a warm, cheerful and smiling person, always willing to help others and particularly attentive to young researchers, whom she welcomed and supported with generosity, openness and without prejudice. Her passing leaves a deep void and a lasting mark on the community.
