Who we are
Fondazione Edmund Mach is an internationally recognized institution which, since 1874, has been engaged in education and training, scientific research, experimentation, and technical consultancy in the fields of agriculture, food, and the environment. It is a unique center in Europe, operating within a 14-hectare campus that includes laboratories, greenhouses, educational facilities, and an experimental farm.
History
We have been operating for 150 years and our mission is still the same: to support agriculture and the environment of the territory while trying to meet new challenges.
The combination of teaching and research makes us a unique center in Europe. The coexistence of education with research and technology transfer allows constant educational enrichment for all staff as well as added value for the territory that hosts us.
The campus
We operate on a 14-hectare campus in San Michele all'Adige, equipped with laboratories, greenhouses, and classrooms, plus 120 hectares of cultivated land and 65 hectares of forest and meadow.
The link with "sister" schools
The San Michele Institute was founded on the model of the Klosterneuburg Institute (established in 1860), and joined by the schools in Rotholz and Porec. Together they represented the three great centers for agricultural education and research in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The synergy between Tradition and Innovation
Our distinctiveness is the training of new farmers and the development of research, transferred in capillary advice to agricultural entrepreneurs; thus, a scientific network of international contacts and synergies has been created, leading to a scientifically prestigious image worldwide
