The Library specialises in agri-food disciplines, applied biology, forestry and environmental sciences.

It preserves and updates the bibliographic heritage of the historic Istituto Agrario provinciale and Experimental Station of San Michele all'Adige, founded by the Diet of Tyrol in 1874, and of the entities that over time have merged into the Foundation: the Regional Agrarian and Forestry Experimental Station (ceased in 1991), ESAT, Ente per lo Sviluppo dell'Agricoltura Trentina (1972-2002) and the Alpine Ecology Centre of Viote di Trento (1993-2007).

The Library is a reference point for the bibliographic and information services of all the Foundation's Centres and is also open to external users.

Since 1987 it has been part of the network of Trentino Library System through an agreement and collaborating in updating the Trentino Bibliographic Catalogue.

The Library Council collaborates in the management of the Library with functions of guidance, planning and verification (Annex B5, Art. 3).
