Publication date: Wednesday 01 October 2025

PRESS RELEASE

From 3 to 5 October 2025, the city of Rovereto will host a new edition of the Wired Next Fest.
FEM will once again take part with a series of talks on key topics such as energy, climate and sustainability, held at Palazzo del Bene.

FEM has designed three events that will explore the energy transition from different perspectives.

The first, “The Green Energy of Cities”, will take place on Friday 3 October, from 5:25 to 5:55 p.m., focusing on the role of urban green areas as sources of energy, resilience and well-being. Speakers will include Cristina Bonomi, educational tutor of the FEM Higher Education course “Advanced Technician for Sustainable Green Spaces”, Elena Gottardini, Head of the Environmental Botany Research Unit at FEM, and Alessandro Paletto, senior researcher at the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA).

On Saturday morning, 4 October, from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m., the discussion “New Sources of Clean Energy” will look at biomass and green hydrogen as renewable energy sources, as well as the importance of transparency and traceability. Speakers include Franco Cotana, Professor at the University of Perugia and member of FEM’s Scientific Committee, and FEM researchers Luana Bontempo and Silvia Silvestri, heads of the Traceability and Bioeconomy Research Units.

Later that morning, from 11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m., the panel “The Great Green Reservoir” will highlight the crucial role of forests and agroecosystems in mitigating the climate crisis. Participants include Damiano Gianelle, Director of FEM’s Research and Innovation Centre, and Professor Riccardo Valentini from the University of Tuscia.

FEM will also contribute to the event “It Takes a Nose”, on Friday 3 October, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., where Franco Biasioli, Head of FEM’s Sensory Quality Research Unit, will present innovative tools for food quality analysis, including electronic noses for aroma assessment.

The Wired Next Fest is organised by WIRED Italia in partnership with the Autonomous Province of Trento – Department for Economic Development, Labour, Family, University and Research, Trentino Marketing, Trentino Sviluppo, Azienda per il Turismo Rovereto, Vallagarina e Monte Baldo, and the Municipality of Rovereto.
